Understanding Business as a “UX-er”
Houston Product Community member Isabel Almaguer, M.HCI, Sr. Data Advisor at Enbridge, shared her talk “Understanding Business as a UXer.”
After several years working as a Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst — where data was clearly understood and valued — Isabel made the leap into User Experience (UX), drawn by the opportunity to tackle complex problems and bring human-centered design to the forefront.
Through her transition from BI and data into UX research, Isabel realized that while data speaks for itself, UX often requires strong advocacy to show its true business impact.
In this session, Isabel shared practical strategies to:
Effectively communicate the value of UX to stakeholders
Gain buy-in for UX decisions
Align design work with company business goals
Show how great UX leads to real business results, like increased sales, customer retention, and cost savings
Whether you were in Product, UX, or tech leadership, you walked away with new tools to help you champion user experience in a business-driven world.
Lots more golden nuggets and knowledge bombs were dropped!

✍ These learning journals to aid my feeble brain focus, capture, and keep up with all of the ideas that other smart people share!
I have started posting them on LinkedIn because, invariably, someone peeks over my shoulder and then asks if they can get a copy.
I've started cataloging local Houston lectures and meetings here.
And a blog post on my notebook “system” here.
#sketchnotes is a term originally coined by designer Mike Rohde.
