2025 ClimateTech Summit at Greentown Labs Houston
When I moved to Houston in late 2021, I was excited to learn about innovations in ClimateTech and the Energy Transition at Greentown Labs. I created some sketchnotes from the 2025 ClimateTech Summit.
Big, bold ideas for a new energy mix are hard. Taking them to scale is really, REALLY hard.
As the saying goes: “Houston does hard things!“
Below are a few of the questions were raised during this gathering at the intersection of energy, tech, education, infrastructure, policy, finance, and business:
What is ClimateTech?
What are the energy jobs of the future?
What is the role of philanthropy and policy?
Who are some of the Houston ClimateTech Innovators?
What lessons can be learned from the “Shale Revolution"?
How can Houston's ambitions go beyond energy innovation?
What might be a road map for the “Energy Transition Revolution“?
What role might AI play in productivity and energy breakthroughs?
What vital role do "anchor" educational and research institutions play?
Houston Mayor John Whitmire declared this a “renewal of vows“ between the city and startups pursuing innovation in energy which have faced many “headwinds and rug pulls“ in the last year.
“ClimateTech 3.0“ is going to just be "Energy Tech" as the demand for power increases, the needs to lower emissions grows, and breakthroughs in generation, storage, and waste reduction continue.
Thanks to Head of Greentown Houston, Lawson Gow and Greentown Labs, CEO Georgina Campbell Flatter and the Greenlabs Community for hosting.
ONWARD!!!
UPDATE: Inspired by these sketchnotes and conversations afterwards, Alphachimp was commissioned by Greentown Labs to create a Houston Energy & Innovation Map.
It shows the physical locations of various energy incubators, partners, member organizations, select startups, venture capitalists, and academic programs.
The physical map was unveiled live during the CERA Week Transition on Tap event on March 26, 2026.
Check out more about our mapping and visual timeline work and see some behind-the-scenes process from past projects and case studies.
